Cornell Campbell

Cornel Campbell is a Jamaican reggae singer and songwriter born on November 23, 1945 in Kingston. Campbell achieved professional recognition for a musical career characterized by reggae, ska, and rocksteady and being known for a trademark falsetto voice. He achieved professional recognition for a career that began after he performed in his local church choir. His recording career began with the single “My Treasure” (1956) recorded at age 11 at the studio of the musician Clement Dodd. Campbell achieved professional recognition for performing as a member of the ensemble The Sensations and the ensemble The Eternals in the 1960s. He achieved professional recognition for launching a solo career in 1971 and collaborating with the producer Bunny Lee. His discography included the debut solo studio recording Cornel Campbell (1973) released on the label Trojan Records. Campbell achieved professional recognition for the song “Natty Dread in a Greenwich Farm” (1975) and the song “The Gorgon” (1976). His recording career included the song “Boxing” (1982) produced by the musician Joe Gibbs. Campbell achieved professional recognition for the song “King in My Empire” (2001) produced by the musician Moritz von Oswald and the musician Mark Ernestus. His discography included the studio recording New Scroll (2013) and the studio recording Sweet Baby (2021).
