Conjunto Chaney

Conjunto Chaney is a Puerto Rican romantic salsa ensemble founded in 1980 by percussionist Nicolás Vivas alongside singer Jerry Rivas, emerging as a fresh voice in the island’s salsa scene. Throughout the 1980s, they developed a devoted following with emotionally charged performances in Puerto Rico’s dance halls, and by the early 1990s they achieved breakthrough success with albums like El Conjunto del Amor (1992) and La Escuela de la Salsa (1993), earning acclaim across Latin America for masterful brass-driven arrangements and heartfelt lyrics. Signature songs such as “Vamos a darnos tiempo,” “Amor de Primavera,” and “Amigos” became staples in salsa playlists, blending romantic balladry with danceable rhythms. Their smooth vocal harmonies and polished production cemented their reputation alongside salsa’s elite. Into the 2000s and 2010s, Conjunto Chaney sustained its presence with new releases like “Salsa Con Amor” (2020) and “Te Tomaré Esta Noche” (2022), demonstrating enduring relevance while appealing to both longtime fans and younger audiences. Managed by Nicolás Vivas with a lineup that honors the group’s classic sound, they continue to record, tour, and inspire a revival of romantic salsa, reminding listeners of the genre’s timeless emotional appeal. In 2024, the group released the album Huellas, featuring contributions from vocalists Willie González and Eddie Santiago.
