Color Me Badd, an American R&B group, were formed in 1985 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The original lineup consisted of lead singer Bryan Abrams, tenor Mark Calderon, second tenor Sam Watters, and baritone Kevin Thornton. They initially performed under the name Take One but changed it to Color Me Badd to distinguish themselves from another similarly named band. Their breakthrough came when they auditioned for Robert Bell of Kool & the Gang in 1987, leading them to move to New York City to set their sights on a record deal. In 1990, they signed with Giant Records and released their debut single "I Wanna Sex You Up" in March 1991. This song became a hit, peaking at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Their debut album C.M.B., released in July 1991, amassed over six million copies worldwide and reached triple platinum status in the US. The group disbanded in 1998 but reunited in 2010 with various lineups since. The most recent iteration of the band began in 2022, marking their comeback with the single "California Dreamin'."
