Claudia Brücken

Born on December 7, 1963 in Berching, Bavaria, German singer Claudia Brücken made her name in the new wave era with the band Propaganda. Known for her expressive voice and central role in the European synthpop scene of the 1980s, she began her musical career with the German band Propaganda, signed to the avant-garde English label ZTT Records founded by Trevor Horn. With Propaganda, she enjoyed international success with tracks such as "Dr. Mabuse", "Duel " and "p:Machinery", in 1984-1985, which blended sophisticated production, dramatic synthesizers and cinematic aesthetics. After leaving Propaganda in 1986, Claudia Brücken formed the duo Act with Thomas Leer, releasing the more satirical and experimental album Laughter, Tears and Rage (1988). She then embarked on a solo career with Love: And a Million Other Things (1991), an intimate record with nuanced electronic arrangements, which marks her unique vocal style, at once distant and embodied, melancholic and controlled. She went on to collaborate with various artists from the electronic and ambient spheres, notably Paul Humphreys (of OMD), with whom she formed OneTwo in the 2000s, and with whom she also shares a personal relationship. Continuing in the synthpop vein, Claudia Brücken also recorded the album Another Language with Andrew Poppy in 2004, and went solo with The Lost Are Found (2012) and Where Else... (2014). In 2018, she teamed up with Jerome Froese, son of Tangerine Dream founder, for the album Beginn. In 2025, Night Mirror is released.
