Christine Chartrand

Christine Chartrand is a Quebec singer, songwriter, composer and television host born on March 28, 1948 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She made her debut in 1966, at the age of 18, on the Quebec television program Découvertes, where she sang Gilbert Bécaud's " Mon arbre ". Following her success, she signed a contract with the Capitol label. In 1971, she represented Canada at the Sopot Festival in Poland, winning the Press Award for her interpretation of Sylvain Lelièvre's "Toi l'ami". In 1976, she scored a hit with her song " Les gars ", the fruit of a close collaboration with musician Georges Tremblay, who later became her partner. She has released a dozen albums in her career, including Mon arbre in 1967, Christine Chartrand à Paris in 1968 and Parlez-moi d'amour in 1989. She scored two number-one hits with " Il pleut des larmes ", a duet with Claude Steben, in 1980, and " Parce que l'amour, c'est ça " in 1981. In the 1980s, she diversified into TV animation and theater. Since the early 2000s, she has sung in a number of bands, including Les Crooners, and taken part in tribute shows to Frank Sinatra and Barbra Streisand.
