Chemirani Ensemble

The Chemirani Ensemble, a notable Persian classical music group, was formed in Paris in 1988 by members of the Chemirani family: Bijan Chemirani, Keyvan Chemirani, and Djamchid Chemirani. Djamchid Chemirani, born in Tehran in 1942, began studying the zarb at age eight under Hossein Tehrani and later taught at the Centre d'Etudes de Musique Orientale in Paris. Keyvan Chemirani, born in Paris in 1968, started learning the zarb at 13 under his father's tutelage and launched an international career as a soloist and accompanist in 1989. The trio released their debut album Trio de Zarb in 1998, followed by notable works such as Qalam Kar (2002), Falak with Neba Solo (2003), and Tchechmeh (2004). Released in 2011, the album Trio Chemirani Invite is recorded with Ballaké Sissoko, Omar Sosa, Renaud Garcia-Fons, Ross Daly, Sylvain Luc and Titi Robin. The trio followed up with Dawâr, released in February 2015. On November 5, 2025, Djamchid Chemirani died in Manosque at the age of 83.
