Caterina Barbieri, born September 14, 1990, in Italy, is an electro-acoustic composer and performer. She studied electroacoustic composition and classical guitar at the Conservatorio Giovanni Battista Martini in Bologna, earning bachelor's and master's degrees respectively. Barbieri released her debut solo album, Vertical, in 2014 under Cassauna, a sub-label of Important Records. Her subsequent albums include Patterns of Consciousness (2017) and Ecstatic Computation (2019). She composed the soundtrack for John and the Hole in 2020, which was selected for the Cannes Film Festival. In 2024, Barbieri participated in the Venice Biennale with a music piece co-composed with Kali Malone and premiered a new work, Womb, in Paris. On November 5, 2024, she was appointed Artistic Director of the Music Department at the Venice Biennale for the two-year period 2025-2026.
