Carbon/Silicon is an English rock duo formed in 2002 by Mick Jones, former guitarist of The Clash and Big Audio Dynamite, and Tony James, former bassist of Generation X and Sigue Sigue Sputnik. Both brought extensive experience from their previous bands and joined forces to create a group that blended traditional rock instrumentation with early digital sampling. The pair released their first officially issued EP, The News, on 27 August 2007, followed by the studio album The Last Post on 1 October 2007. Subsequent releases included Western Front (2006), The Carbon Bubble (13 December 2009), and The Crackup Suite Parts 1 & 2 (2010), all distributed initially as free digital downloads before being made available on iTunes and Amazon in 2010. The duo performed at major festivals such as the Isle of Wight Festival and Neapolis in Naples, and toured the United States and United Kingdom, often sharing the stage with former Clash member Topper Headon and other notable artists. Despite a limited commercial chart presence, Carbon/Silicon achieved a niche following within the UK alternative rock scene, with The Magic Suitcase EP reaching number 7 on the UK Indie Chart in 2007.
