Captain Gumbo, a Dutch zydeco and Cajun music band, was formed in 1987 by Mark Söhngen, Hans Soeteman, Joost Witte, and Gerard de Braconier. The group's breakthrough came with their version of "Allons à Lafayette", which peaked at number 30 on the Dutch singles chart in 1990. Their debut album 1 More 2 Step was released in 1990, followed by Back à La Maison in 1992 and Chank-A-Chank in 1994. The band toured extensively across Europe, performing at notable venues such as Rotterdam Ahoy and supporting artists like Fats Domino. Captain Gumbo's music featured numerous cover versions of classic zydeco and Cajun songs, including "Toot Toot" by Rockin' Sidney.
