BystrÃk Režucha was a Slovak conductor born on 14 January 1935 in Bratislava. He studied conducting at the Academy of Music in Bratislava and later in Leipzig before beginning his professional career with the Czechoslovak Radio Symphony Orchestra. He served as the founding chief conductor of the KoÅ¡ice State Philharmonic from 1968 to 1981. Režucha became the chief conductor of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra in 1984, holding the position until 1989. In 1999, he received the title of conductor emeritus for the 50th anniversary of the Slovak Philharmonic. He appeared on international concert stages across Europe, Mexico, and Japan and recorded a significant volume of standard repertoire. He also returned to the KoÅ¡ice State Philharmonic as chief conductor between 1993 and 1995. Režucha died on 16 August 2012 in Bratislava.
