Buddhadev Das Gupta was born on February 1, 1933, in Bhagalpur, India. He was an Indian classical musician and sarod player who began his musical journey at a young age under the tutelage of Radhika Mohan Maitra. His first program on All India Radio as a guest artist marked the beginning of his professional career, leading to over 17 national programs on the same platform. He was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1993 and the Padma Bhushan in January 2012. His autobiography, Bamaner Chandrasparshavilash, was published in two parts in 2004 and 2010. Das Gupta passed away on January 15, 2018, at his residence in South Kolkata due to cardiac arrest. He was survived by his wife and two sons.
