Born in New Orleans in 1979, Bryan Hymel has the stature of the great tenors of the 20th century. Winner of the Verdi Competition in Aspen (Colorado), he made his debut at New York's Carnegie Hall in 1998 and went on to perform Italian bel canto roles on American and then European stages, notably in Carmen at Covent Garden (London) and La Scala in Milan. Substituting for Jonas Kaufmann in Berlioz's Les Troyens in London in 2012, he then triumphed in Verdi's Requiem and recorded his first thematic recital, Héroïque: French Opera Arias, published in 2015.
