Brokeback is the musical project of American bassist and guitarist Douglas McCombs. McCombs began his career in the late 1990s as a founding member of Pullman and later joined the bands Tortoise and Eleventh Dream Day. He launched Brokeback in 2000, releasing a series of albums including Field Recordings from Cook County Water Table (1999), Morse Code In The Modern Age: Across The Americas (2001), Looks at the Bird (2003), Brokeback and the Black Rock (2013), Illinois River Valley Blues (2017), and VMAK<KOMBZ<<<DUGLAS<<6NDR7<<< (2022). The project has featured collaborations with artists such as Rob Mazurek, Noel Kupersmith, Mary Hansen, and James McNew.
