Brij Narayan was born on April 25, 1952 in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. He began playing the sarod from an early age under his father Ram Narayan and other teachers. He won the All India Radio Instrumentalists Competition in 1967. After completing his studies at the University of Mumbai in 1972, he embarked on an international career performing at events such as the Olympic Games and touring extensively across Africa, Europe, and America. He released several albums including Raga Marwa & Misra Desh (1989) and Scintillating Sarod (1991).
