Boyce and Hart

Sidney Thomas "Tommy" Boyce and Bobby Hart, collectively known as Boyce & Hart, were an American musical duo from Los Angeles. Initially pursuing solo careers, Hart, born Robert Luke Harshman on February 18, 1939 in California, served in the Army after high school before moving to Los Angeles seeking a singing career. Meanwhile, Tommy Boyce, born September 29, 1939, was already trying his hand at songwriting. Their partnership began in 1959 when they collaborated on Hart's single "Girl in the Window". After contributing hit songs like "Lazy Elsie Molly" for Chubby Checker and hits for Jay & the Americans, Paul Revere & the Raiders and The Leaves, they gained recognition. In late 1965, Boyce & Hart wrote, produced, and performed the soundtrack of the pilot for The Monkees. They wrote numerous hits for the band, including "(Theme from) The Monkees" and "Last Train to Clarksville", which became a huge hit in 1966. The duo also had success with their own albums Test Patterns (released on July 3rd, 1967), I Wonder What She's Doing Tonite? (April 16, 1968), and It's All Happening on the Inside (February 1969). Their single "I Wonder What She's Doing Tonight" reached Number 8 in early 1968 and sold over one million copies. Boyce & Hart also contributed music to several television shows including Days of Our Lives and movies, such as The Ambushers, Murderers' Row, and Three's a Crowd. The duo was involved in various solo projects by 1974. Boyce died by suicide on November 23, 1994 at the age of 55 and Hart died on September 10, 2025 at the age of 86.
