Boudewijn de Groot, born Frank Boudewijn de Groot in a Japanese concentration camp near Batavia (now Jakarta), is a Dutch singer-songwriter. He moved to the Netherlands with his family in 1946 and later lived in Haarlem and Heemstede. De Groot's musical journey began in 1960 when he met lyricist Lennaert Nijgh at high school, leading to early singles like "Strand" (1964) and "Noordzee" (1964). His breakthrough came with the hit single "Meisje van 16" in 1966. De Groot's debut album Boudewijn de Groot was released that same year, followed by Voor de overlevenden. Notable songs include "Welterusten mijnheer de president" (1966), a protest song about the Vietnam War, and "Picknick" from the 1968 album of the same name. His comeback in 1973 featured the hit single "Jimmy" from the album Hoe sterk is de eenzame fietser, earning him an Edison and a Gouden Harp award.
