Boris Giltburg

Born in Moscow, Russia on June 21, 1984, Boris Giltburg is a classical pianist praised especially for his renditions of works by Sergei Rachmaninov. Born in Russia, his mother began teaching him to play piano when he was five years old. His family relocated to Israel, where he continued his piano studies under pianist / composer Arie Vardi between 1995 and 2007. Boris Giltburg came to international prominence with his performance with London Symphony Orchestra in 2007, followed by a tour in China that year and a trek across the US in 2009. He plays regularly with the Jerusalem Symphony, and he has been artist in residence at the Cheltenham Festival in England. He made his recording debut in 2006 with Mussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition; Scriabin, Prokofiev: Piano Sonata, which was followed by albums such as Prokofiev: War Sonatas (2012), Schumann: Carnaval; Davidsbündlertänze; Papillons (2015), and Beethoven: Piano Sonatas Nos. 8, 21 & 32 (2015). He followed his 2016 recording, Rachmaninov: Études-tableaux, Op. 39; Moments musicaux with 2017’s Rachmaninov: Piano Concerto No. 2; Études-tableaux, Op. 33, which featured the Royal Scottish National Orchestra conducted by Carlos Miguel Prieto. Boris Giltburg’s Shostakovich: Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 2; String Quartet No. 8 (2017) found the pianist performing with trumpet player Rhys Owens and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vasily Petrenko. The album rose to number 16 on Billboard's Classical Albums Chart. He’s continued to garner critical acclaim for albums such as Beethoven 32, Vol. 9: Piano Sonatas Nos. 30-32 (2021), Beethoven: Bagatelle No. 25 in A Minor, WoO 59 ‘Für Elise’ (2022), and Dvořák: The Complete Piano Trios (2023).
