Blaxy Girls

Romanian all-female pop-rock squad and Romanian Eurovision finalists Blaxy Girls first emerged on the scene in 2007 and built up a steady following until their demise in 2014. Hailing from Constanta, Romania, the band was formed of lead singer Rucsandra Iliescu – who had already put down her showbiz roots in TV shows and at competitions – bassist Cristina Marinescu, guitarist Diana Ganea, pianist Ana Maria Nanu and drummer Gela Marinescu. Blaxy Girls stepped out with their debut studio album, If You Feel My Love, in 2008, which shot to the top of the chart in Romania and yielded a national hit single in the LP's title track. The album also featured a bonus track, "If You Feel My Love (Chaow MIX)," a remixed version of the title track based around a sample of a Beijing opera about Chen Shimei and Qin Xianglian. Blaxy Girls appeared in the semi-finals of the Golden Stag Festival later that year. A second single from If You Feel My Love, "Dear Mama," also earned the group acclaim at home in Romania. They performed the song at the 2009 Romanian Eurovision Song Contest, where they finished in a tie for second place. After calling it quits in 2014, the group experienced a second coming in 2020 when "If You Feel My Love (Chaow MIX)" became a meme. The following year, the song entered meme land again, this time revolving around the Chinese Social Credit System.
