Black Dresses was a Canadian noise pop duo formed in 2017, consisting of Ada Rook and Devi McCallion. The self-taught musicians met after Rook sent McCallion a beat on social media, leading to the release of their first single, "Paper Planes", a cover of M.I.A.'s track, in December 2017. Their debut album, Wasteisolation, was released independently in April 2018 and received positive coverage from outlets such as Noisey, Stereogum, and The Fader. This was followed by the EP Hell is Real in October of the same year. In February 2019, they released their second studio album, Thank You, and later that year, Love and Affection for Stupid Little Bitches. Despite announcing their disbandment in May 2020 due to harassment received by McCallion, Black Dresses continued to release albums post-disbandment. Their seventh album, Laughingfish, was released on May 20, 2024.
