Born in 1975 in Kyoto, bird is a Japanese singer-songwriter known for her soulful voice and versatile musical style. She was discovered by Shinichi Osawa and made her debut in 1999 with the single "SOULS" under Osawa's label RealEyes. Her first album bird, released in July 1999, was a major success, selling 700,000 copies and earning her the New Artist Award at the Japan Gold Disc Awards. After parting ways with RealEyes in 2002, bird expanded her career beyond singing, showcasing her talent as a composer and producer. She continued to release both original and cover albums, building a distinctive musical identity. In 2015, she released her 10th studio album Lush, produced by Tomita Keiichi (Tomita Lab), further demonstrating her growth as an artist. Throughout her career, bird has been recognized for her clear, powerful vocals and her ability to blend genres such as jazz, soul, and pop. Known for her "sense to humor"(2025) she remains an influential figure in Japan’s music scene, earning acclaim for both her recordings and her dynamic live performances.
