Binomio de Oro de América

Founded on June 16, 1976, in Barranquilla by lead singer Rafael Orozco Maestre and accordionist Israel Romero, Binomio de Oro de América became one of Colombia’s most influential vallenato groups. They gained rapid recognition with a romantic and melodic take on vallenato, releasing successful albums such as El Binomio de Oro (1977), Por lo Alto (1977), Clase Aparte (1980), and Mucha Calidad (1983), which found success across Colombia and neighboring countries like Venezuela. Their popularity grew throughout the 1980s and early 1990s with international tours and multiple awards, cementing their role as ambassadors of modern vallenato. Following the tragic death of Rafael Orozco in 1992, Israel Romero reorganized the group, introducing new singers including Gabriel “El Gaby” García, Jean Carlos Centeno, Richard Salcedo, and José Fernando “El Morre” Romero. In 1993, they released Todo Corazón, a tribute to Orozco that marked the beginning of a new era. The group continued releasing acclaimed albums throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, including De la Mano con el Pueblo (1994), Lo Nuestro (1995), A Su Gusto (1996), Seguimos por lo Alto (1997), Más Cerca de Ti (1999), Difícil de Igualar (2000), Haciendo Historia (2001), and Grafiti de Amor (2005). In 2006, they released Impredecible with Didier Moreno as lead vocalist, continuing their tradition of success and receiving further recognition across Latin America. In 2019, they released Por El Mundo Entero, reaffirming their relevance more than four decades after their founding. Over the next few years, the group kept performing and recording under Israel Romero's direction and incorporated vocalists Israel David Romero, Paulinna Velásquez, and Neider Delgado, continuing to tour internationally and represent vallenato to new generations.
