Billy Eckstine and His Orchestra

Billy Eckstine and His Orchestra was an American big band active from mid-1944 to early 1947, known for its innovative contributions during the late swing era. Formed by singer Billy Eckstine after leaving Earl Hines' orchestra, the group initially included musicians like Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, and Charlie Parker. The band's debut recording session in April 1944 featured "Good Jelly Blues" and "I Stay in the Mood for You". Following a successful tour along the East Coast, they released notable singles such as "Prisoner of Love" and "A Cottage for Sale". In 1946, the orchestra appeared in the film Rhythm in a Riff, featuring Miles Davis. Financial difficulties led to the band's disbandment in February 1947.
