Big Soul

No man is a prophet in his own country, and Big Soul - guitarist Kelleth Chinn, charismatic bassist and vocalist Caroline Wampole and drummer Deane Jenkins - failed to break through in the U.S. despite a long series of concerts in their native California between 1989 and 1995. It was in France, therefore, that the trio first came to public attention with the hit "Le Brio (branchez la guitare)", a concentrate of energetic, funk-tinged rock that appeared on their first album of the same name, released in 1995. A second hit, "Hippy Hippy Shake", continued the success, but their second opus, Love Crazy, released in 1997, and their third, Funky Beats, in 2001, did not enjoy the same success, though this did not stop the band, whose name was inspired by a John Lee Hooker song in which the bluesman sang "What a Big Soul" , from going from strength to strength.
