Berwyn

Born Berwyn Du Bois in Diego Martin, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, BERWYN is a rapper, producer, and songwriter whose genre-blending style has made him one of the most exciting new voices in the UK music scene. His sound is often characterised by a mix of smooth R&B melodies, vivid storytelling, and vulnerable confessions that touch on themes of mental health, identity, and personal struggle. He first gained attention in 2020 with the release of his debut EP, DEMOTAPE/VEGA, a powerful and deeply personal collection of tracks that captured listeners with its emotional depth and candidness. The EP’s standout tracks, such as "GLORY" and "TRAP PHONE," showcased his ability to balance introspective lyricism with hard-hitting production, earning him comparisons to artists like Frank Ocean, J. Cole, and Kid Cudi, and landing him a spot on the Mercury Music Prize shortlist in 2021. He was ineligible for the prize, owing to a rule requiring nominees to have lived in the UK or Ireland for more than five years, however, he was nominated for the Best Newcomer gong at the MOBO Awards later that year. His breakthrough moment came with the release of his debut studio album, Who I Am, in 2024, which received widespread critical acclaim for its genre-defying approach, blending rap, R&B, pop, and even a touch of reggae. The album was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2024.
