Berner

Gilbert Anthony Milam Jr. is an American rapper who performs under the stage name Berner. Born on October 27, 1983 and raised in San Francisco’s Sunset District, he relocated to Arizona with his family at the age of 13 and became involved in the city’s battle rap scene in 2006. A year later, Berner made his recording debut with the mixtape Dirty Sneakers...Plenty Ways to Get It and the Equipto collaborative LP Track Money & Pack Money, both released via his Bern One Entertainment label. Weekend at Bernie's, his first full-length, arrived in 2009 along with four other joint releases with Equipto, The Jacka, Messy Marv, and Ampichino. All of the underground buzz surrounding his incipient but growing catalog helped Berner score a deal with Wiz Khalifa’s Taylor Gang Records imprint, which issued his third studio effort Urban Farmer in 2012. After joining the Under the Influence of Music Tour with the likes of A$AP Rocky, Trinidad Jame$, and Joey Bada$$ in 2013, Berner reached Number 95 on the Billboard 200 with his 2015 release, 20 Lights EP. Featuring cameos by Cypress Hill, Juicy J, Dizzy Wright, J Boog, and Kool John, his follow-up album Hempire (2016) proved even more successful, peaking at Number 54 on said chart. In the subsequent years, Berner continued to expand his catalog with titles such as Sleepwalking (2017), The Big Pescado (2018), and El Chivo (2019) with T3R Elemento’s Kris Nava. In 2021, he returned with the full-length Gotti, which became his highest-charting album by climbing up to Number 23 on the Billboard 200.
