Berlin, an American synth-pop band, was formed in Los Angeles in 1978. The group's origins trace back to a rock band called the Toys, which included John Crawford on bass guitar and Dan Van Patten on drums. After several lineup changes, Terri Nunn joined as lead vocalist in 1979, marking a pivotal moment for the band. Their first single, "A Matter of Time", was released that same year. Berlin's breakthrough came with the release of their EP Pleasure Victim in 1982, which included the controversial hit "Sex (I'm a ...)". The following year, they signed to Geffen Records and re-released Pleasure Victim, leading to further success with singles like "The Metro" and "No More Words". In 1986, Berlin achieved their biggest hit with "Take My Breath Away", featured in the film Top Gun. This song won an Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song. Despite this success, the band disbanded shortly thereafter. Berlin reunited in 1997 and continued to release albums, including Voyeur (2003) and Animal (2013).
