Banda Calypso

Banda Calypso, a Brazilian brega pop band, was formed in the late 1990s in Belém, Pará, by guitarist and producer Cledivan A. Farias, also known as "Chimbinha," and his wife, singer and choreographer Joelma da Silva Mendes. The duo began their musical journey with Joelma's solo album, which transitioned into the band's debut release, Banda Calypso Volumen 1. Their breakthrough came with the single "Vendaval", which gained regional success. The band's success continued with albums like Ao Vivo (2001) and Na Amazônia (2005). Banda Calypso achieved significant milestones, including selling over 22 million records and receiving two Latin Grammy nominations. Their final album, the DVD, 15 Anos, was released in 2015. The band disbanded on December 31, 2015, following the separation of da Silva Mendes and "Chimbinha".
