Baeg Yeong Kyu

Baeg Yeong Kyu, born as 백영규 on May 22, 1952, in Incheon, Republic of Korea, is a prominent South Korean singer. He began his music career in 1976 with live performances at underground clubs, establishing himself as a solo folk-rock musician. His breakthrough came in 1978 when he became the vocalist and guitarist for the folk-pop duo 물레방아, which significantly expanded his reach and influence. Baeg Yeong Kyu's solo debut album, 백영규 (also known as 물레방아의솔로데뷰작품), was released on June 20, 1979. Throughout his career, Baeg Yeong Kyu has released numerous albums that have solidified his status in South Korean folk music. Notable releases include 백영규 대표곡모음 (1991), His Golden Best (2006-06-22) and 술 한잔 (2016-10-06). His album 친구야 미안해 was released in 2022, showcasing his enduring creativity and relevance in the music industry. Among his many singles, "엄마 그리워요" (2016) and "대청도 소년" (2024) stand out as particularly impactful tracks. Baeg Yeong Kyu won the MBC Top 10 Singers Song Festival's Rookie of the Year Award in 1980, marking a significant milestone in his career. This award recognized his talent and potential early on, setting the stage for his future successes.
