Hykeem Jamaal Carter, Jr. â AKA Baby Keem â was born in Carson, California on October 22, 2000. This rapper, songwriter and producer made his first high-profile appearance as a writer and producer on a track featured on his cousin Kendrick Lamarâs 2018 musical project Black Panther: The Album. He produced two tracks - âKnock It Offâ and âRotation 112thâ - for Jay Rockâs 2018 album Redemption. Baby Keem then released his digital EP No Name in May, 2018, followed two months later by his next digital EP release, Hearts & Darts. In October of the same year, he released his first full-length mixtape entitled The Sound of a Bad Habit. In April of 2019, rapper Schoolboy Q released his Crash Talk album featuring two tracks co-produced by Baby Keem: âNumb Numb Juiceâ and âLiesâ (featuring Ty Dolla $ign and YG). In July 2019, Baby Keem co-produced the track âNileâ (featuring Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar) from The Lion King: The Gift, a musical companion album to the 2019 remake of The Lion King. That same month, he released his second digital mixtape, Die for My Bitch, which featured the hit single âOrange Sodaâ (number 98 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart). In 2021, Baby Keem issued the charting singles âDurag Activityâ (with Travis Scott) and âFamily Tiesâ (with Kendrick Lamar), which won a Grammy Award for the Best Rap Performance and a BET Award for the Video of the Year. His debut solo album, The Melodic Blue, followed in September 2021. He also made a guest appearance on âPraise Godâ from Kanye Westâs 2021 album Donda. In 2023, he returned with Kendrick Lamar on âThe Hillbilliesâ, before a featuring on Fred Again's âLeavemealoneâ later that year. In 2026, Baby Keem released his sophomore album, Ca$ino, featuring âGood Flirtsâ with Kendrick Lamar and Momo Boyd, and other collaborations from Too $hort and Che Ecru.
