Azam Ali

Azam Ali, born on October 3, 1970, in Tehran, Iran, is a singer and songwriter. She spent her early years in Panchgani, India, and later moved to Los Angeles, where she studied the santur under Manoocher Sadeghi. In 1996, Ali formed the alternative music group VAS with percussionist Greg Ellis and released four albums on Narada Records from 1997 to 2004. Ali's solo career began with Portals of Grace in 2002. In 2004, she co-founded the electronic-acoustic group Niyaz with her husband, Loga Ramin Torkian, and producer Carmen Rizzo, which topped the World Music Charts of Europe in 2005. Her subsequent solo albums include Elysium for the Brave (2006) and Phantoms (2019). Ali has also contributed vocals to films such as The Matrix Revolutions, 300, and Children of Dune.
