Austra

Austra, a Canadian electronic music band from Toronto, Ontario, was founded in 2009 by Katie Stelmanis. Prior to forming Austra, Stelmanis and Maya Postepski were part of the band Galaxy and Stelmanis released her debut album Join Us under her own name in 2008. In 2010, Stelmanis recruited Dorian Wolf and Carmen Elle for live performances and signed with Domino Records after a showcase at South by Southwest. The band's debut album, Feel It Break, was released on May 13, 2011, and was nominated for the Polaris Music Prize. Notable singles from this period include "Lose It" and "Spellwork". Their second album, Olympia, followed in June 2013, featuring the single "Home". The band's third album, Future Politics, was released on January 20, 2017, influenced by electrocumbia and house music. Austra has continued to release albums, including HiRUDiN in May 2020 and Chin Up Buttercup in November 2025.
