Allison Ponthier was born on February 26, 1996, in Allen, Texas, and later adopted the stage name August Ponthier; she is an American folk singer, guitarist, and songwriter. After studying jazz at the University of North Texas, she moved to Brooklyn in 2017 and began posting covers and original songs on TikTok, gaining attention for her queerâthemed lyrics. In 2020 she signed with Interscope Records, and her debut EP Faking My Own Death (2021) featured the single "Cowboy," which Billboard listed among the â25 Best Songs By LGBTQ Artists of 2021 (So Far).â The followâup EP Shaking Hands With Elvis (2022) included the experimental track "Autopilot." In 2024 she released Breaking the Fourth Wall, and after being dropped by Interscope, she announced a fullâlength album Everywhere Isn't Texas slated for 2026. Her collaborations include a feature on Lord Huronâs I Lied and touring with Bleachers in 2022.
