Ataxia

Ataxia was an American experimental rock supergroup formed in Los Angeles in January 2004. The ensemble consisted of guitarist John Frusciante, bassist Joe Lally, and drummer Josh Klinghoffer. The members represented the groups Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fugazi, and Dot Hacker. During a two-week period, the trio wrote and recorded material that was released as two studio albums: Automatic Writing (2004) and AW II (2007). The music featured ground-bass lines with varied guitar motifs and extended developments. Ataxia performed two live shows at the Knitting Factory in Los Angeles on February 2 and February 3, 2004. The group became inactive in February 2004. Klinghoffer subsequently worked on solo recordings by Frusciante and served as a touring musician for the Red Hot Chili Peppers before becoming their lead guitarist in 2009.
