Art Brut is a Londonâbased English indie rock band formed in 2003 by lead vocalist Eddie Argos, guitarist Ian Catskilkin, bassist Freddy Feedback, and drummer Mikey Breyer; the groupâs name references the French concept of outsider art. The bandâs breakthrough came with the 2004 single "Formed a Band" released through Fierce Panda, which reached Number 52 on the UK Singles Chart, followed by "Modern Art" / "My Little Brother" at Number 49. In 2005, Art Brut issued their debut album Bang Bang Rock & Roll, produced by John Fortis, and supported it with extensive touring, including a headline slot at Glastonbury in 2005. The 2007 release Itâs a Bit Complicated, produced by Dan Swift, yielded the single "Nag Nag Nag Nag" and earned a position on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. After a contractual split with EMI, the band signed to Cooking Vinyl and released Art Brut vs. Satan in 2009, produced by Frank Black, and Brilliant! Tragic! in 2011, also produced by Pixies frontman. In 2018, they issued Wham! Bang! Pow! Letâs Rock Out! on Alcopop! Records, preceded by the singles "Wham! Bang! Pow! Letâs Rock Out!" and "Hospital!". The group has maintained a steady presence on the UK indie scene, with consistent touring and collaborations with acts such as We Are Scientists, while sustaining chart presence and a dedicated fanbase. Following the release of Wasabi with We Are Scientists in 2019, and compilations And Yes, This Is My Singing Voice and A Record Collection Reduced to a Mixtape in 2024, Art Brut collaborated with the Scottish indie band Bis for the single "Opposites Attract", which reached Number 16 on the UK Singles Sales chart in December 2025.
