Apoptygma Berzerk

Apoptygma Berzerk, a Norwegian electronic rock band, were founded in 1989 in Sarpsborg by Stephan Groth and Jon Erik Martinsen. Initially a duo, Apoptygma Berzerk became a solo project after Jon Erik Martinsen's departure shortly after the band's formation. The group released their debut EP Victims Of Mutilation in 1990, marking their first significant release. Their early works, including The 2nd Manifesto (EP, 1992) and Soli Deo Gloria (album, 1993), established a unique sound blending electronic music with rock elements. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Apoptygma Berzerk released several notable albums, such as 7 (1996) and the single "Until The End Of The World" (mcd, 2002). Their album Rocket Science (2009) featured a mix of electronic sounds and rock, addressing themes like conspiracy theories and media criticism. In 2007, all older albums were re-released in remastered editions. The band's discography includes covers and remixes, notably on the album Sonic Diary (2006), which consists entirely of cover versions. Apoptygma Berzerk have toured extensively across Europe and the USA, including a support tour with Unheilig from 2010 to 2011. The band's line-up underwent changes in 2009 when several members left due to personal reasons, but Stephan L. Groth continued as the lead figure, ensuring the band's continuity.
