Anja Garbarek, born on July 24, 1970 in Oslo, Norway, is a singer known for her work in electronica and electronic music. The daughter of saxophonist Jan Garbarek, she began her musical career with the release of her debut album Velkommen Inn in February 1992. Her subsequent albums include Balloon Mood (1996), produced by Marius DeVries; Smiling & Waving (2001), co-produced by Steven Wilson and featuring Mark Hollis of Talk Talk and Robert Wyatt; and Briefly Shaking (2005). In 2006, she also composed the soundtrack for Luc Besson's film Angel-A. Garbarek has been recognized with Spellemann Awards in the open category in 2001 and 2019.
