Angus & Julia Stone

Angus & Julia Stone formed in Sydney, Australia, in 2006, bringing together siblings Angus Stone on vocals and guitar and Julia Stone on vocals, guitar, and trumpet. Raised in Newport on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, they began performing each other’s independently written songs at open-mic events before recording the EP Chocolates & Cigarettes in their father’s living room. Released in 2006, the EP featured “Paper Aeroplane” and helped the duo secure agreements with EMI Music Australia and Independiente Records in the United Kingdom. After relocating to London, they recorded material with producer Chris Potter and Travis singer Fran Healy, resulting in the 2007 EP Heart Full of Wine and their debut album, A Book Like This. Featuring “The Beast,” “Wasted,” and “Just a Boy,” the album reached number in6 Australia and received platinum certification. Following extensive international touring and a brief period devoted to individual projects, Angus & Julia Stone released Down the Way in 2010. The album topped the Australian chart, while “Big Jet Plane” won the Triple J Hottest 100 and became their signature song. At the 2010 ARIA Awards, the duo collected five prizes, including Album of the Year, Best Adult Alternative Album, and Single of the Year. After another interval focused on solo work, producer Rick Rubin reunited the siblings for the more electric, self-titled Angus & Julia Stone in 2014. Preceded by “Heart Beats Slow” and “A Heartbreak,” it became their second Australian Number 1 album. The self-produced Snow followed in 2017, reaching number 2 in Australia and featuring “Chateau” and its title track. In 2021, the duo signed with BMG and created Life Is Strange, the soundtrack to the video game Life Is Strange: True Colors, which won the ARIA Award for Best Original Soundtrack, Cast or Show Album. They returned to their acoustic roots on Cape Forestier in 2024, led by “The Wedding Song,” “Losing You,” and the title track, and supported it with concerts across Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand. In 2026, Angus & Julia Stone moved to Virgin Music and released “Karaoke Bar,” “Monroe,” and “Celestial Bodies” ahead of Karaoke Bar. Recorded across Greece, France, and Australia, the album expanded their folk-based sound with indie-pop, trip-hop, and synthesizer-led arrangements and accompanied another international tour.
