Anamanaguchi

Anamanaguchi are a groundbreaking chiptune and electro-rock band from New York City, formed in 2004 by Peter Berkman, Ary Warnaar, James DeVito, and Luke Silas. They are known for fusing the 8-bit sounds of vintage video game consoles with high-energy punk and electronic elements. Early releases like the Power Supply EP (2006) and Dawn Metropolis Preview (2009) established their signature blend of digital and traditional instruments, while 2013’s Endless Fantasy—funded by a record-breaking Kickstarter—cemented their reputation with 22 tracks of vibrant, genre-defying music. The band also composed the soundtrack for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game (2010) and contributed to the animated series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (2023), bringing their playful, pixel-inspired sound to pop culture. In 2019, Anamanaguchi released [USA], a more introspective and socially conscious album, showing their growth beyond chiptune. Their 2025 album Anyway, produced by Dave Fridmann, marks a new chapter with a 1990s alt-rock-influenced sound while retaining experimental edge, highlighted in tracks like “Darcie” and “Rage (Kitchen Sink)”. From their early chiptune experiments to their current alt-rock explorations, Anamanaguchi continue to push musical boundaries, inspiring a new generation of musicians at the intersection of gaming culture and modern pop.
