Amira Medunjanin

Amira Medunjanin, born Amira Dedić on 23 April 1972 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, is a singer and songwriter whose work spans world music and the traditional sevdalinka genre. Her early exposure to Sarajevo’s musical scene led her to record the single "Mujo đogu po mejdanu voda" in 2003, collaborating with the Mostar Sevdah Reunion project. The breakthrough came with her debut studio album Rosa (2005), released on Snail Records, which received acclaim across Europe and positioned her as a notable voice in contemporary Balkan music. Subsequent releases followed a clear chronological progression: Live (2009), a recording of her Jazz Fest Sarajevo performance; Zumra (2010) on Harmonia Mundi/World Village; Amulette (2011); Silk & Stone (2014) on Aquarius Records; Damar (2016) on World Village, which entered the Transglobal World Music Chart’s top 40 in 2017; Ascending (2019) featuring the Trondheim Soloists; For Him and Her (2020) on Croatia Records; Homeland (2024); and the forthcoming AMIRA (2026). She has toured extensively across Europe, performing at major festivals and collaborating with international ensembles. In 2020, she received the Best Female Vocal Performance award at the Porin Awards in Pula, marking a significant cultural recognition of her contributions to world and Balkan music.
