Amerie Marie Mi Rogers, born January 12, 1980 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, is an American soul singer and songwriter who first gained attention as a teenager in the early 2000s. After moving between U.S. bases and South Korea during childhood, she returned to the United States, studied English at Georgetown University, and met producer Rich Harrison, who became a key collaborator. Her breakthrough single "Why Don't We Fall in Love" in 2002 reached number twenty‑three on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped launch her debut album All I Have, which peaked at number nine on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold. In 2005, the single "1 Thing" climbed to number eight on the Hot 100 and topped the Hot R&B/Hip‑Hop Songs chart, earning a gold certification and two Grammy nominations. The album Touch followed, reaching number five on the Billboard 200. Subsequent releases included Because I Love It (2007), In Love & War (2009), and independent projects such as 4AM Mulholland (2018) and After 4AM (2018). Throughout her career, Amerie has toured with artists like Usher, Nelly, and Ashanti, and has received nominations from the Soul Train, BET, and MTV Video Music Awards, solidifying her presence in contemporary R&B and soul music.
