Amen Corner

Amen Corner, a British psychedelic rock band, was formed in 1966 in Cardiff. The group, led by Andy Fairweather-Low, initially specialized in blues and jazz but transitioned to a more commercial sound under the guidance of their record labels. Their debut single "Gin House Blues" (1967) reached number 12 on the UK Singles Chart, followed by another successful single with "The World of Broken Hearts" (1967). The group's first album was Round Amen Corner, released in 1968 on the Decca label Deram. After signing with Immediate Records in late 1968, they achieved their breakthrough with the Number 1 hit "(If Paradise Is) Half As Nice" (1969), followed by another top 5 entry with Roy Wood's composition "Hello Susie". Amen Corner recorded one more studio album, Farewell To The Real Magnificent Seven, featuring a cover of The Beatles' "Get Back" as their final single. The group disbanded at the end of 1969 and appeared in their own roles in the horror film Scream and Scream Again (1969), performing the film's theme song. Members went on to form new bands; Andy Fairweather-Low, Dennis Bryon and Blue Weaver notably achieved further success with Fair Weather. The band’s catalog was reissued as part of Decca's "Collection" series, and their Immediate Records output, including singles and live material, was compiled in The Immediate Anthology (2007).
