Alpesh Chauhan

Born in Birmingham on April 26, 1990, Alpesh Chauchan is a British cellist and conductor of Indian origin. He studied cello before moving on to conducting at Manchester's Royal Northern College of Music. He made his debut with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in 2013, and the following year was appointed Assistant Conductor during Andris Nelsons' tenure until 2016. Appointed Music Director of the Filarmonica Toscanini, he takes up his post in 2017 and leaves in 2020, to become Associate Conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, until 2023. This period sees him record the first three volumes of Tchaikovsky: Orchestral Works, published between 2023 and 2025. Since 2020, Alpesh Chauchan has also been Music Director of the Birmingham Opera Company. Awarded Revelation of the Year at the International Opera Awards in 2021, he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II in 2022. Meanwhile, in 2021, he was appointed guest conductor of the Düsseldorf Symphoniker.
