Born in Blackpool, Lancashire (England), on September 29, 1973, Alfie Boe's career took a fortuitous turn on the stages of musicals and in recordings of classical, jazz and popular works. An opera buff as a child, he was working in a car body shop when a client suggested he audition in London, which he won, and which enabled him to sing in a show based on the works of Gilbert & Sullivan. After winning a scholarship to the Royal College of Music, he joined the Opera Company, where he was spotted by director Baz Luhrmann, who was looking for talent for a Broadway production of Puccini's La Bohème, for which he won a Tony Award in 2003. Signed to the Classic FM label in 2006, Alfie Boe recorded his first album, which reached number three in the UK classical music charts. He continued his recording career with EMI Classics for Onward and La Passione (2007), whose repertoire ranges from popular songs to modern classical music. In 2010, his role as Jean Valjean in Les Misérables, performed at London's O2 Arena, raised his profile with a wide audience. He performs at the BBC Proms (2011) and tours following the release of the recital Bring Him Home (2010). A compilation, You'll Never Walk Alone - The Collection, was released in 2011. The following year, the tenor sang alongside Renée Fleming for Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee. The albums Aflie (featuring Robert Plant on "Song to the Siren", 2011) and Storyteller (2012) follow in quick succession. He begins a collaboration with Michael Ball on the albums Together (2016) and Together Again (2017), ranked number one in their countries and performed to sold-out concerts. After musical comedy tunes, Alfie Boe turns to vocal jazz and traditional pop on As Time Goes By (2018). After this tenth studio album, and to follow on from the album Back Together released in November 2019, the tenor announces a joint tour in 2020 with Michael Ball, whom he had reunited with in summer 2019 in Les Misérables. The duo continue their adventure in Together at Christmas (2020), Together in Vegas (2022) and Together at Home (2024). At the same time, Alfie Boe records solo albums Open Arms: The Symphonic Songbook (2023) and Face Myself (2026).
