Alex Ligertwood

Alexander John Alexis Ligertwood aka Alex Ligertwood, born 18 December 1946 in Glasgow, was a Scottish singer, guitarist and drummer whose vocal range spanned nearly four octaves. He began playing guitar during the 1950s skiffle boom, joining groups such as The Meridians, The Kwintones, and The Senate before gaining prominence as lead vocalist for Santana across stints from 1979 to 1994, including Live Aid. Alex Ligertwood appeared on "All I Ever Wanted" and "You Know That I Love You" and co‑wrote "Brightest Star" for Santana. He released albums Old Man River (1972) and Season's Greetings (2000). He also sang in the Jeff Beck Group in 1971 and played with the Brian Auger's Oblivion Express from 1970 to the 2020s. His final show was on 10 April 2026, and he died in Santa Monica on 30 April 2026, at the age of 79.
