Born in Santo Domingo on March 23, 1983, Dominican-Spanish artist Alex Ferreira has built a distinctive career as a singer-songwriter, producer, and sound engineer known for blending pop, rock, and Afro-Caribbean influences. After spending his childhood in the U.S., he relocated to Madrid to study audio engineering and pursue music, launching his first EP Resplandor in 2005 and quickly integrating into the city’s indie scene. His early projects, including Un domingo cualquiera (2010) and El afán (2012), showcased his lyrical introspection and genre experimentation, earning critical acclaim and leading to collaborations with Latin music luminaries like Fito Páez, Jorge Drexler, and Natalia Lafourcade. In 2015, Alex Ferreira pivoted toward electronic textures with the album Cinema tropical, and deepened his sonic exploration with Versiones Para el Tiempo y la Distancia, Vol. 1 (2016) and Canapé (2017), a genre-blending record crowdfunded by fans. The LP Tanda (2021) further solidified his reputation as a versatile and globally conscious artist. Throughout his career, he has remained rooted in his Dominican heritage while drawing on diverse influences—from merengue and bachata to indie pop and electronica—positioning himself as a boundary-pushing figure in the Latin alternative movement. In 2024, he returned with the LP Versiones Para el Tiempo y la Distancia, Vol. 2.
