Alan Dawa Dolma, known simply as alan, was born on 25 July 1987 in Kangding, Sichuan province, China. She is a Tibetan singer who began playing the erhu at an early age and later graduated from the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Academy of Art in Beijing with majors in vocal music and erhu. She released her debut Chinese album Shengsheng Zui Rulan (声声醉如兰) in 2005 while still in college, marking the beginning of her musical career. In 2006, she auditioned for the Japanese label Avex Trax and moved to Tokyo in late 2007, where she debuted with the single "Ashita e no Sanka". She achieved greater visibility by recording theme songs for the film Red Cliff (2008), with theme song "Kuon no Kawa" reaching number three on the Oricon weekly charts. Her subsequent albums include Voice of Earth (2009) and My Life (2009). In 2010, she completed her first Japan tour and released the double A-side single "Diamond/Over the Clouds". She returned to China in 2011, releasing her album Love Song under Yuehua Music the following year. She continued to release music sporadically during the 2010s and returned in 2021 with the new EP I Want To Love You So Much (我想好好愛你).
