American harpsichordist, musicologist and conductor Alan Curtis (1934-2015) specializes in the "reconstruction" of Baroque operas, with an emphasis on period choreography, singing and instrumentation. A pupil of Gustav Leonhardt, he taught at the University of California, Berkeley, and since 1979 has directed the ensemble Il Complesso Barocco, after a distinguished career as a harpsichordist. He has produced numerous operas by G. F. Handel, including Rodrigo, Radamisto, Arminio, Deidamia, Rodelinda, Floridante, Alcina and Ariodante, as well as works by Jommelli, Cimarosa, Conti(David) and Francesco Sacrati's La Finfa pazza. A great pioneer of early and baroque music, Alan Curtis died on July 15, 2015 at the age of 80.
