Akua Patricia Dixon, born on July 14, 1948 in New York City, is an American cellist and singer. Coming from a musical family, she co-founded the string quartet Quartette Indigo with her sister Gayle Dixon after completing classical music studies in 1972. The group accompanied artists such as Carmen McRae and Dizzy Gillespie. During the 1970s, Dixon taught cello and singing in Harlem schools and at the New Muse Community Museum in Brooklyn. She collaborated extensively with Steve Turre, whom she married from 1978 to 2012, and contributed arrangements for artists like Lauryn Hill and Aretha Franklin. Her debut album Moving On was released in 2011, followed by her self-titled album Akua Dixon in 2014. Dixon has been featured on numerous albums, including works by Archie Shepp, Betty Carter, and Henry Threadgill. In 2017, she was nominated for a Jazz Journalists Association Award in the category of Best Jazz Violinist.
