Adama Dramé

In the Malinke culture of West Africa a griot is an important person within the community whose primary purpose is to preserve the memories and history of their culture. Adama Dramé is a sixth generation griot, becoming a professional musician at the age of twelve. With a global interest in world music Dramé has found a platform and an outlet for his music, not to mention a demand for his outstanding ability as a percussionist, specifically his expertise on the djembe, a traditional wooden drum. This has led to collaborations with European artists such as Royal Deluxe, Bernard Lubat, Marc Vella and Les Percussions de Strasbourg. He has recorded a number of albums showcasing his talents and promoting the music of his homeland. These include Giant Of Djembe and Mandingo Drums. As well as a performer and carrying out his duties as a griot, Dramé teaches percussion and is an artistic director of the Ballet Foliba.
