Ace Frehley

Born on April 27, 1951, in New York City, guitarist, songwriter, and singer Paul Frehley is better known as Ace Frehley, a founding member of iconic hard rock band Kiss. Due to the outrageous costumes and heavy make-up used by Kiss, during the early part of his career with the band many of his fans didn't know what he actually looked like. During his tenure with Kiss, he developed the persona of ‘The Spaceman’ (a.k.a. Space Ace) and his trademarks became a series of novelty guitars, usually with some kind of pyrotechnic capability such as smoke generation. One memorable instrument used in the early days of Kiss would fire rockets from the neck, a gimmick which struck fear into the hearts of concert promoters and venues. Behind the showmanship lay real talent and Ace Frehley is considered to be one of the greatest exponents of the classic heavy metal guitar style. He was a source of inspiration for a whole generation of heavy metal guitar players during the 1970s and 1980s. Ace Frehley left Kiss in 1982 but retained one quarter of the band's profits until 1985, including earnings from the albums Lick It Up and Animalize, even though he played no part in their creation. He started his own solo project in 1984 which became known as Frehley's Comet and enjoyed a good critical reception and healthy album sales. He rejoined Kiss in 1996 for their sell-out reunion tour but left again in 2000 to resume his solo career. In 2009, he released the album Anomaly, which was followed by Space Invader (2014) and Origins, Vol. 1 (2016). In 2017, he announced that he was rejoining his Frehley's Comet bandmates to perform a couple of songs during a live show of his new material. Ace Frehley released Origins, Vol. 2 in 2020 which was an album of cover versions. In 2024, Ace Frehley released the album 10,000 Volts, which received universal critical acclaim from fans and critics. The album, produced by Trixter’s Steve Brown, was often referred to as his best solo album since his 1978 self-titled solo debut.
